FAQs
What is GravityWorks Circus?
GravityWorks is an aerial arts school based in Yellow Springs, Ohio, offering aerial fabric and sling classes for adults and youth, private lessons, intensives, and performances.
Do I need prior experience to start aerial classes?
No prior experience is required for beginner-level classes. We also offer intermediate options for students with previous aerial training.
What apparatuses do you teach?
We currently offer classes in aerial fabric (silks) and aerial sling (hammock). We offer private hoop (Lyra) lessons as well. Offerings may vary by term.
Most classes run in six-week terms. When you register, you commit to attending the same class day and time each week for the duration of the term.
How are classes structured?
Can I drop in or attend a single class?
Our regular classes are term-based and do not offer drop-ins. Private lessons are available for students seeking one-time or flexible training.
What happens if I miss a class?
Missed classes are not refundable or transferable. We can recommend signing up for Open studio, or taking a private lesson depending on how much you missed in class. We encourage consistent attendance to ensure safety and steady progress. If class is cancelled due to a holiday or the teacher needs to cancel, we will make that class up to you.
What should I wear to aerial class?
Wear fitted athletic clothing that covers the backs of the knees and midriff to protect your skin from the fabric. Please remove jewelry before class and bring a water bottle.
Safety is a top priority at GravityWorks. Classes are taught by trained instructors using proper rigging, mats, and age-appropriate progressions which does make aerial safe. Students are also encouraged to work within their own limits. However, aerial is a dangerous art form and if not rigged, wrapped or done correctly or with professional knowledge it can surmount to severe injury or death. Please read more about our safety policy and about doing aerial at home.
Is aerial safe?
Is there an age or fitness requirement?
Aerial is physically demanding but totally achievable! Students of many ages and fitness levels can participate, and instructors offer modifications as needed.
What ages can participate in youth aerial classes?
Youth classes are offered to kids ages 8 and up. Please check individual class listings for age requirements and placement guidelines.
Parents may observe designated viewing times such as at student showcases at the end of the six week term. We ask that spectators remain quiet and avoid coaching during class.
Can parents observe classes?
Private lessons are available for adults and youth of all experience levels and are ideal for focused training, skill development, or performance preparation.
Who are private lessons for?
